A focus on the practice of mindfulness and wellbeing, using art as a tool to slow down and explore what is there for us in an ever-chaotic world.

Soft Art Club was a 5 week winter pilot program that focuses on therapeutic arts practice for Muslim women on Wednesday nights at Garage 35 Art Studio. It is an opportunity to learn how to use art as a tool of wellbeing and expression. To slow down and find ways to healthily express what lies beneath the surface. It ran in 2025 from July to August.

Maximum capacity: 7 people per session

Cost: $15-20 sliding scale

Dates: July 16, 30 Aug 6, 13, 27

With some chai in one hand and a paint brush in the other, it’s been incredibly warming to see how art can deepen our own reflections and thoughts about ourselves and how we connect to those around us. ☕️

’Holding cycles, trying to stay present.
Repeating circles and prayer positions,
to soften the space around me.
My mind wonders, messy and,
taking up a lot of space, let it go.
Smooth out the harsh lines,
Soften the limits if put on my self.’

These are our reflections from today.

Week 1

Another Wednesday night with Soft Art Club.

Whimsy, wonder, and a whole lot of body listening. 💭✨

We explored how art can support our nervous systems, letting go of rigid ideas to dive into play and presence. It’s incredible to witness how much creativity flows when we allow ourselves to create without judgment.

So proud of this crew for showing up fully and creating so generously tonight. 🎨🫶

Soft Art Club is a gentle introduction to group Art Therapy for Muslim Women and friends at my art studio.

Week 2

Last night’s focus was on the body. Mapping sensations from the pangs of hunger to the comfort of a warm hug.

In the way we represent and describe these experiences, we can begin to trace threads that reveal our relationship with ourselves. Not only within our bodies, but also in our kinesphere (the space around us that our bodies move through).

These subtle awarenesses open up new ways of connecting, expressing, and tending to ourselves with care.

Week 3

Our bodies often know when a boundary is crossed before our minds do.

In Soft Art Club #4, we explored these signals through art giving our boundaries shape, texture, and space. This creative process helped us reflect on how we protect our personal space and where we might want to strengthen or soften it.

Art therapy makes room for this embodied awareness, turning felt experiences into insights we can act on.

Week 4

We closed with a workshop on the self and our bodies, exploring how creativity can help us reconnect, reflect, and heal. Through art-making, participants discovered new ways of listening to themselves and expressing what words cannot always capture. A gentle ending to a soft beginning.
